Veritas Solid Carbide Rod Card Scraper Burnisher

A new take on typical single-handled burnishers, this tools innovative design permits a two-handed grip, improving control so you can roll precisely the sort of hook you want on your scraper. As comfortable to grip as a spokeshave, it is held between the thumbs and forefingers, keeping your fingertips close to the solid carbide rod. This gives you much better tactile feedback, which helps you maintain control of both force and angle as you run it along the edge of a scraper (typically clamped in a vise). The burnishers relatively small size helps prevent you from pressing too hard, so youre less likely to overwork the edge. Although designed for two-handed use, it can also be maneuvered one-handed if desired. It has a 3/16" (4.75mm) diameter, 1" (25.4mm) wide carbide rod, injection-molded into a plastic body and is compact enough to slip into an apron pocket.Made in Canada. Veritas String Inlay Scraper

The critical dimension for string inlay material is thickness. If too thick it wont fit into the groove; too thin, and it will leave an unsightly gap. This tool scrapes veneer or any narrow, thin stock up to 2 1/2" wide to the exact thickness required. Instead of a sole that travels on top of the material, it has two skates to elevate the blade from the work surface. This allows the inlay material to pass underneath the tool, and the skates to act as a depth stop for the blade. The blade height is adjusted relative to the work surface and is set to match the width of the inlay groove (just use the thickness of your grooving blade as a shim when setting the blade height; no need to fiddle with micrometers or rulers). The inlay is then scraped until the skates make full contact with the work surface. The 2 3/4" wide blade has two edges ground at 45 so that the blade can be flipped over, reducing the frequency of sharpening sessions. Two brass clamps, tightened with thumbscrews, hold the blade. The skates are 3" apart to allow the tool to be skewed to accommodate changing grain direction and prevent chatter marks. To speed up bulk production of string, the stock can be clamped to a strip of MDF or other flat material and two included pins screwed into the bottom of the scraper to act as guides, keeping the scraper skates on the strip. An accurate and reliable way to achieve exact thickness. Made of aluminum with brass hardware and hardwood, it is 10 1/4" 3" overall. Made in Canada. Read Less

Veritas Tapered Tenon cutter - 1"

To make simple, fast work of mortice-and-tenon joinery, this system uses power tenon cutters and matching countersinks to produce strong flush-fitting joints in round or dimensioned stock. The cutters produce a symmetrical tenon with a 60 tapered shoulder that fits neatly in a countersunk socket. The main blade shapes the tenon and shoulder, while a finishing blade smoothes the tenon to a consistent diameter and cuts a slight relief at the base of the shoulder to ensure it seats flush. The finishing blade's cutting depth is adjustable, so you can fine-tune the tenon diameter for close fit. Cutting capacity for all sizes is 1 1/2" greater than the tenon diameter. Sizes 5/8" to 1" cut 2" long tenons (not including the tapered shoulder) and are for use in drills with a 3/8" or larger chuck. Sizes 1 1/4" to 2" cut 3" tenons and are for use in drills with a 1/2" or larger chuck. All have hex shanks and anodized bodies, and can be used in an electric drill or hand brace (not for use in a drill press). To shape the tenon socket to match the tenon shoulder, we offer two sizes of countersinks separately, each with interchangeable bushings sized to match our tenon cutters. Made in Canada. Patented. Veritas Tapered Tenon cutter - 1/2"

Our tapered tenon cutters will put tapered tenons on the tips of turnings, dowels or rustic furniture components to fit into tapered holes for example, legs and spindles on a Windsor chair. Use the cutter like a hand-held pencil sharpener; you either rotate the workpiece while pressing it into the cutter body or you can rotate the tool on the workpiece. Works equally well in soft, green or hard woods. Although the body design is similar to our Veritas dowel and tenon cutters, the cut is quite different. When a tenon is fed through the body, the straight-edged blade tapers the ends, whereas the curved blade on our dowel cutters cuts cylindrical tenons with a radiused shoulder. (If you have already purchased our dowel cutters, buying a straight replacement blade will allow you to cut tapered tenons.) Please note, the curved blade (for dowel making) should be used with only the three smallest sizes of tenon cutters. The size given for each cutter is the minimum tenon diameter it will cut the maximum is 1/2" greater, over a total tenon length of 2 1/2". A starter kit of the 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" sizes will cover most tenoning requirements for typical chairmaking. Some longer tenons may require cutting the major diameter with a larger cutter, and then finishing with a smaller cutter; if you have all five sizes you will be able to cut any diameter tenon up to 1 1/8" in diameter and as long as 2" in a single operation. Veritas Three In One Marking Gauge

This elegant marking gauge is really three tools in one a wheel gauge, a pin gauge and a cutting gauge. The unique swivelling pin/blade chuck takes either a pin or a blade that locks in place (after extension is set) using a set screw in the end of the 4 1/2" gauge stem. The cutting blade can be set for either right- or left-handed use. The opposite end of the stem is tapped to accept a 3/8" diameter wheel cutter. The fence and the internal portion of the locking collet are a single eccentric brass turning. The collet fingers have just enough stem friction to hold a projection setting while you lock it in place with a half turn of the knurled locking sleeve. The 1" diameter fence is eccentric to maximize rub depth. A side benefit is that it also prevents the gauge from rolling off the workbench. Comes complete with a dozen spare blades, two hardened steel pins, a wheel cutter and screw, and a hex key. Extra stems available separately for those who prefer to switch heads as quickly as possible. Made in Canada. Patented. An excellent tool that is a great buy. Read Less

Veritas Variable Burnisher with Blade

Cabinet scrapers are among the most useful (and least expensive) tools in a woodworking shop. Unfortunately, many woodworkers have difficulty putting the optimum hook on a scraper for the job at hand. Since scrapers have four working edges, it is possible to make one into a highly versatile tool with each edge having a different cutting characteristic. The problem most people have is choosing the best burnishing angle and then attempting to hold the burnisher at exactly that angle. Our Variable Burnisher eliminates the problem and makes burnishing easy. It has a carbide rod fixed in a brass hub at an angle. A knob on the face of the body lets you set any angle from 0 to 15. You rotate the hub to the chosen angle and then lock it into position with the brass thumbscrew. Because the burnisher body is slotted, you can burnish a scraper with confidence that the angle is being maintained. The high impact-resistant, injection-molded body has brass fittings and uses a polished carbide rod in the business section. Includes complete instructions for forming and using a variety of hook angles, as well as a milled-edge scraper to practise on. Our patented burnishing system makes it possible for anyone to perfectly burnish cabinet scrapers to the desired angle every time. Made in Canada. Read Less

Veritas® Bullnose Plane

The Veritas bullnose plane, perfect for cleaning up machine-cut joints, is one of the most useful hand joinery tools you can own. Designed for maximum versatility, it performs as either a bullnose or a chisel plane as required. Simply loosen the brass toe locking knob to remove the toe piece for chisel plane configuration, and you can work right up to a blind corner. An adjustable set screw in the toe acts as a stop to accurately set the mouth opening. It also ensures that when switching between configurations the toe will be repositioned with the same mouth opening previously set and ensures that you will never accidentally jam the nose against the blade edge. It measures 4 3/4" long by 1" wide and weighs just over 1 1/4 lb. The ductile cast iron body and toe are accurately machined and ground so that the sole and sides are flat and square. Shaped to fit comfortably in the hand, the low, broad lever cap meets the palm of your hand, and your forefinger rests in the toe pocket for maximum comfort and control. The through-hole in the body adds to grip security. The planes adjustable toe lets you narrow the mouth for very fine shavings with minimum tear-out. The low bed angle of 15, combined with the 25 blade bevel, results in a cutting angle of 40 for exceptional end-grain cutting performance. Set screws along the side enable you to accurately position the blade, and after sharpening replace it without lateral adjustment. The lapped blade is 1/8" (0.125") thick and made of either A2, O1 or PM-V11 tool steel. Made in Canada. Patented. Read Less

Veritas® Low-Angle Spokeshave with PM-V11® Blade

Until about 1900, most spokeshaves had wooden bodies, hand-forged low-angle blades that fit into holes in the body, and were adjusted by tapping the ends of the tangs. They cut beautifully due to the low cutting angle, but the blades were not easy to adjust and became expensive. This spokeshave has the same low cutting angle as spokeshaves of old (20 basic bevel with a 25 micro-bevel), but adjustment of cutting depth has been simplified substantially. Instead of adjusting blade projection, the blade is fixed, forming the sole of the spokeshave, while the adjustable toe piece controls the depth of cut. In one orientation, the toe piece is suited to convex and flat work; flipped 180, it is set for concave work. The blade is fixed by two machine screws that wedge it in position when the knurled knobs on the top of the shave are tightened. Because the blade can be moved forward or backward, the mouth opening is controllable. The cast aluminum body has a powder coating and, with fittings, the tool weighs just over 6 oz. Supplied with a 2" wide, 1/8" thick A2 or PM-V11 tool steel blade. The ease of cutting and the ergonomically shaped body make this tool capable of much more precise work than the standard spokeshaves of today. A beautiful tool with classic origins. Made in Canada.
