Measuring & Marking Metals (WPS6)

Title: Measuring & Marking Metals Author: Ivan Law Workshop Practice Series No. 6. Although much of model engineering is a matter of making one part to fit another and thus may obviate the need for the sophisticated means of measuring often called for in production engineering, the accuracy of a finished job begins with the exactness of the initial marking out and continues with the accuracy of measurements made during the progress of the work. How to use measuring equipment and how to mark out work - not always the simple matter it might first seem are essential skills for any engineer and the purpose of this book is to show how they may be acquired and employed. 210x148mm 128 pages Binding: Illustrated paperback

Mechanical Combi Edge/Centre Finder 10mm Shank

Edge finders are used to find the exact position of a workpiece relative to the spindle of a milling machine. How it Works Hold the edge finder (using a 10mm collet or end mill holder) in the spindle of the mill and set the tip off-centre. Set the spindle to run at about 500rpm and slowly advance the tip (in X or Y) towards the edge of the work. Continue feeding when the tip touches the work and as the spindle approaches the datum, the two central flanges of the edge finder will begin to align. At the moment the machine passes centre, the tip abruptly kicks sideways about 1.5mm as it tries to run along the edge of the work. At this point stop feeding and note down the handwheel position. The spindle centre will now be exactly half the edge finder's tip diameter from the edge of the work. If required, the procedure can be repeated to double check your handwheel reading. Specifications: Shank: 10mm Tip Dia. : 4mm and centre finder point Overall Length: 78mm

Metric HSS Fine Teeth Slitting Saws - 1 to 3mm Thickness [3 to 5"OD)

Metric HSS Fine Teeth Slitting Saws - 1 to 3mm Thickness [3 to 5"OD) Made from High quality M2 HSS Please ensure your Arbor is suitable to take these saws. The TiN Coated saws have no Keyways Available sizes: Saw OD Saw Thickness Bore Size Teeth Keyway Coat 75mm (3") 2mm 25.4mm (1") 72 No TiN 100mm (4") 2mm 25.4mm (1") 100 No TiN 125mm (5") 2mm 25.4mm (1") 125 Yes 100mm (4") 1mm 25.4mm (1") 100 No TiN 125mm (5") 3mm 25.4mm (1") 125 Yes ? Slitting Saw with a Keyway Keyway: A groove cut into the inner bore of the slitting saw, designed to fit a corresponding key on the arbor. Purpose: Prevents the saw from slipping or rotating on the arbor under heavy cutting loads. Application: High-torque operations Deep cuts or harder materials When greater stability is required to prevent the saw from shifting on the arbor. Benefits: Prevents slippage Distributes cutting forces more evenly Reduces the risk of damage to the saw and arbor Drawback: Requires a matching keyway arbor Slightly more difficult to mount compared to a plain-bore saw ⚙️ Slitting Saw Without a Keyway (Plain Bore) Plain Bore: A smooth, round bore with no groove. Purpose: Relies on the clamping force of the arbor to hold the saw in place. Application: Light to moderate cutting operations Thin cuts or softer materials When rapid tool changes are needed Benefits: Easier to mount and remove More versatile if you have different arbor sizes Drawback: May slip under high torque Not suitable for heavy-duty cutting
